Auditions for the Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater’s production of the crowd-pleasing favorite, Steel Magnolias, will be held 6pmFriday, January 8th, 2016. Auditions will take place at the Carolina Civic Center, located at 315 N. Elm Street Downtown Lumberton NC.

The show has six female roles to fill. Auditioners will be asked to perform cold readings from the script in a southern accent. The director request that all auditioners know which role they are interested in playing and be familiar enough with the character to engage in a conversation, as if you were actually that character.

Rehearsals are tentatively slated to begin in February and will run three days a week 6pm to 10pm. Performance dates are May 15, 16 and 17.

Character Breakdown

Truvy Jones – mid-40s; owner of the beauty salon where the action of the play takes place; married with two college-age kids; friend and neighbor to her clientele.

Annelle Dupuy-Desoto – 19; Truvy’s new assistant, new in town; married but separated from her outlaw husband; she’s naive, serious, full of apprehensions, but she truly loves and cares for the people in her life.

Clairee Belcher – 60s; widow of the former mayor of Chinquapin, Louisiana; she is a true grande dame; very comfortable in her own skin; very wealthy; socially prominent but unpretentious.

Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie – 25; a lovely, independent, adventurous young woman; knows what she wants in life and won’t let anything stop her, not even her well-meaning mother; she is a nurse in the hospital’s infant ward.

M’Lynn Eatenton – mid 50s; Shelby’s mother; married 30 years with three children, two boys and Shelby; very protective of Shelby but not smothering; she works as an administrator at the Mental Guidance Center.

Ouiser Boudreaux – 60s; a true character; a very wealthy woman who doesn’t look or play the part; she’s an eccentric and a curmudgeon; speaks her mind at all costs; she possesses a wicked tongue but a heart of gold.
