The Southeastern Times was a Bladen County newspaper back in the 1970’s and 1980’s. It covered news, sports, lifestyles and other happenings in the mother county. BladenOnline intern, Leyton Ezzell found a recipe by Barbra A. Miller in the old pages of the Southeastern Times to share with our readership.
1 Large head cabbage, shredded
1 Large onion, sliced
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup vinegar
1 ½ tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon celery seed
1 tablespoon dry mustard
¾ cup salad oil
Place alternate layers of the cabbage and onion in a bowl. Combine the sugar, vinegar, salt, celery seed, mustard, and oil in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Pour over the cabbage mixture and cover. Refrigerate over night. 12 servings.
