Thoughts While Shaving

For years, folks interested in staying overnight in Elizabethtown have had few options.  That has changed over the past few years and more options are on the horizon.

Ron Taylor (LuMil Vineyard) built cottages over the past few years that provided an option.  Now Alex Monroe is developing Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery near the airport that will allow overnight accommodations (Opening soon).  The latest is The Elizabethtown Inn, a bed and breakfast (Chris Adams), hopefully opening in April near the intersection of Broad Street & Cromartie Road.

For years, folks have suggested another motel in the area, but there have been no takers, now the three smaller locations offer options and my guess, my hope is all three will make a positive difference and all will be rewarded for their investment in the community.  It appears all will offer a little different experience, for those looking for an overnight stay in the area.

Remember when a barrel of oil was selling for $145.  It was July, 2008 and at the pump the price of a gallon of gas was it or near $4 a gallon.  Well, yesterday, a barrel of oil closed below $30. There is more oil being pumped around the world than being sold. Would think prices at the pump should soon reflect the change.

Remember when we were told we were running out of oil?, the Arab countries were holding us up?  Times have changed, hopefully for the better.  Time for someone else to be held up.

Speaking of change.  Sure could use a little good news soon.  Dow Jones Industrial Average on December 29, 2015 was $17,720.98.  Yesterday’s (Friday, January 15, 2016) closing average dropped to $15,988.08 a loss of $1732.90 in 2016.  Some blame China’s economy, the oil industry and who know what else?

For many, the Ray Charles tune from days gone by is appropriate.  It’s Crying Time Again.

Shoot, we are still living in the best place in the world.  With all the challenges and opportunities, I know of no country I would rather live.  For the most part, if we work hard, conserve and save what we can, we will be OK.

Forget the bad news, enjoy the weekend, and begin the new week with vim, vigor and vitality.

Our attitude towards others determines their attitude towards us.  Earl Nightingale

I am responsible.  Although I may not be able to prevent the worst from happening, I am responsible for my attitude toward the inevitable misfortunes that darken life.  Walter Anderson

Those who want to sing, always find a song.  Swedish Proverb

There are exactly as many special occasions in life as we chose to celebrate.  Robert Brault.
