Thoughts While ShavingThe weather has been great over the past few days and weeks, with one exception, we need rain.

A recent report from the National Weather Service makes my point. Over the past 30 days we have received less than 50% of normal rainfall. The same is true for the past 60 days. Our normal rainfall over the past 60 days is nearly 12.0 inches, we received about 5.8 inches.

Soil moisture conditions are at normal to slightly below normal levels. The eight to fourteen day outlook calls for above normal rainfall and the outlook for the rest of March through May from the Climate Prediction Center calls for near normal rainfall. We hope they are correct.

The deadline for paying your 2016 property taxes and avoid advertisement is a week from today, March 15 and the cost of advertisement is added to your delinquent tax bill.

I think I have just about reached my limit of negative news coming out of Raleigh and Washington, DC. Both parties. I wonder if anyone is taking care of business of the average citizen. Like these quotes from President Dwight Eisenhower:

I despise people who go to the gutter on either the right or the left and hurl rocks at those in the center.

The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army or in an office.

Thought force can protect in emergency, only justice, fairness, consideration and cooperation can finally lead men to the dawn of eternal peace.

This world of ours…must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect.

A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.

Farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil and you’re a thousand miles from the corn field.
