Bladen County Schools will be closed for students today (Monday, September 11) due to Hurricane Irma and it will be an optional workday for teachers with an 8 AM start time.
After watching the weather channel off and on over the past few hours I am convinced that one requirement for storm assignment, need to have a few extra pounds to maintain an upright position in strong winds and rainfall.
Continue to pray for Floridians. Many still in the state and many more up and down I-95 (including NC) and other major roadways having left home seeking ‘safe haven’, ’til the storm that has caused havoc across the state, passes by. Reminds me of the gospel song, “Keep Me Safe ’til the Storm Passes By”.
Hurricane Irma is getting all the coverage, and rightfully so, but what about Hurricane Jose?
FEMA has work to do and our leaders must ‘find’ the money. No wonder we are nearly bankrupt. A little like our personal business, think we are in a position to ‘catch-up’ and we face another ’emergency’. Mathew, Harvey, Irma, what’s next? Maybe Jose.
Ordinarily we would be reflecting on September 11, 2001. Remember? 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, DC and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people were killed. A dark day in the history of the United States.
And 9-11-2014, my walking partner was the victim of a vehicle accident near Bladen Community College and has been bed ridden since. Janice Johnson now resides at Elizabethtown Nursing Home. I still miss seeing her for our morning walk, 6AM Monday thru Friday. We walked for nearly 27 years. Send her a card or visit, help brighten her day. A loving, caring Christian lady.
