43 degrees at 4:30 a.m. Rainfall totals yesterday at the Curtis Brown Airport weather station were about an inch. If our forecast is correct, and no reason to question, our rainfall is over for another week. Today, sunny, with a high near 64 and windy. Clear tonight, with a low around 38. Wednesday, sunny, with a high near 71. Temps return to the mid to upper 80s Friday thru Monday. Perfect lake and beach weather … and good for planting crops.

I attended Bladen County Commissioners meeting last night … interesting. I remembered those days … controversial, frustrating, but fond memories. Current board dealing with some of the same type issues as there were in the 70s and 80s, but also more sophisticated issues. It’s easy to question and condemn, but what they do is important. I appreciate what they do … May not always agree, but, neither do they … That’s the reason you have more than one.

The Tar Heel Bridge will be dedicated in memory of Ronald Phillip Allen Jr. The event will take place at the Tar Heel Fire Department, Wednesday at 11 a.m. Allen was a long time fireman and all around dependable volunteer, died several years age doing what he enjoyed doing … volunteering … All are welcomed.

And, a reminder of the Smithfield Bladen We Care/Byron Gooden Memorial Golf Tuornament, Thursday, April 28 at Vineyard Golf, US 701 near White Lake. The response has been overwhelming. Full slate of golfers morning and afternoon. Proceeds go to assist local residents experiencing unusual medical issues, many with inadequate insurance coverage or no coverage and limited resources … also assist area colleges that train nurses … BCC and Pembroke University. After a couple of years of dealing with the pandemic, good to return and it has been/will be a huge success…

Bladen County Shriners are sponsoring another Fish Fry, Wednesday, April 20 (tomorrow) in the Food Lion parking lot. Begins before noon … and last ’til the last fish is fried…

Bladen County Relay for Life is set for Saturday, April 30, 5 to 10 p.m. at Elizabethtown Middle School athletic field … Another worthy event sponsored by volunteers to assist others…

And, one more … A fundraiser is planned for Bladen Crisis … Planned for Friday, May 6th … BBQ plates will be sold … proceeds benefit Bladen Crisis … Mark your calendar … More to come…
