Thoughts While ShavingIt rained, and it rained and we received more rain … Best I can tell, over 4 inches of rain in a rather short time frame … Late Saturday afternoon, damage was reported on the US 701 bridge over the Cape Fear River about a block from maybe the busiest intersection in Elizabethtown … and NCDOT halted traffic across the river due to the damage, immediately…

Traffic was directed to Tar Heel, the nearest bridge over the river for many … If headed west on NC 87, turn right at Hardee’s in Tar Heel, across the river, down NC 53, to NC 242 and the US 701 intersection just north of Elizabethtown. NCDOT officials responded quickly … they began putting a team together and work is underway … Not sure of the damage, and not sure when the road will be passable … Hopefully by early to mid week … All I know … Phone was ringing off the hook … (old expression)…

Another option is NC 11 near East Arcadia for folks in the eastern part of the county.

Bladen County Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay on Monday…

Rainfall totals will vary greatly, but around 4 inches, give or take a little, between 1:30 p.m. and about 9 p.m. Rainfall totals we used were at the local airport … weather station…

It will be messy for a few days … until repairs are made and we return to a more normal situation…

Bladen County Hospital Auxiliary volunteers met recently and several were honored for their years of service … I mentioned one earlier … Mildred Simmons … Others included Kaye Dennis, Kathy Rhew and Kristie Lennon, all sisters were recognized for 19 years of service each to the organization. Sharon Meismer, Director of Volunteers, was honored for 30 years of service to the hospital, and she is retiring. Happy to receive and no doubt all are appreciated and those retiring will be greatly missed…

Sunny, today, with a high near 74 … Partly cloudy tonight with a low around 51. Monday, partly sunny, with a high near 70 … Best chance for more rain is Wednesday thru Friday … 40 to 60% chance.

Today is CHURCH DAY.

“Excuses are for people who don’t want it bad enough … Stop saying … I can’t, I won’t, I might, I’ll try, maybe later, tomorrow … Start saying “I Will” Today!

“If you left with no reason, don’t come back with an excuse.”

Maybe the bridge being out is a good excuse…
