I woke up this a.m. thinking about Easter as a youngster, great memories, pastors that I recall that, despite them probably ready to give up on us as a group … left lasting impressions, about the Easter stories from long, long ago…
A couple of pastors of Zion Hill Baptist Church near Bladenboro that I recall … Rev. Pete Lingle and Rev. J.C. Shaw, left lasting memories for me … Youth groups, youth outings at the church … (we never traveled) … And later … the Eckie Lancaster family when he was pastor of Wesley’s Chapel UMC, where we attended when our sons were young (and still do) … about Easter and other times when there was a break in school schedules and the trips they made as youngsters … Early trips included Philadelphia, New York, and Nashville, TN. all after Rev. Lancaster arrived as pastor. And, at least on one or two occasions, my bride and I, with other adult couples, enjoyed a trip, maybe trips, to Nashville … same old bus…
Rev. Lingle and Shaw long deceased, but when I was traveling with a statewide organization, I renewed old acquaintances … The Shaws returned to Wilkes County, their home area … I visited Rev. Shaw’s bride several times … lasting memories. The Easter story is very important, but my memories associated with the holiday are as well…
Spent some time with the Lancasters this week … Eckie and Shirley retired, are long time White Lake residents … Always enjoy spending time on the porch, renewing old acquaintances…
