Emereau School in Elizabethtown began the 2023-24 Academic school year yesterday, according to their calendar. Bladen County public school students return on August 28.
I began to have flashbacks to years long ago … early ’40s when all students began at the same time … In the early grades, I do not remember much … Do remember having to take a nap after lunch … on newspaper type paper spread out on the floor … did not like … but as I entered elementary school, I thought about strolling thru Bladenboro Middle School hallways … checking the list of names of students in each classroom door, looking for my name … It was an exciting time … seeing my friends, some I had not seen since the end of the previous year … Less exciting the higher the grade … No air conditioning at home or school. Raise the windows and hope there was a breeze … But good days … Made life-long friends…
Checking weather … more rain … another very brief shower, near 10 p.m. last evening, very brief … maybe better described as a trace…
