Anyone remember the Dixie Classic basketball tournament? … Former NC State basketball coach Everette Case was the originator … The tournament was played at Reynolds Coliseum and consisted of NC State, UNC, Duke and Wake Forest and 4 teams from across the country … No outside team ever won the tournament played from 1949 and 1960. The tournament came to an end after a point-shaving scandal in 1961 involving players from UNC and NC State … quoting a report on Wikipedia … It was very popular every year, played just after the Christmas holiday … if my memory is correct…
