Thoughts While ShavingWas awake early this A.M., not sure why, but I thought about high school football, years ago … Some really good teams in Bladen County … I remember 6-man football teams at Clarkton, Bladenboro, Tar Heel, White Oak … but the one I dreamed of was Elizabethtown Yellow Jackets, 1961, 11-man team … Charlie Regan was coach, and a good one … Unscored on, all season long. Unfortunately they were scored on in a championship playoff game…

The 1960 team was undefeated in regular season play. Curt Vincent, former editor of the Bladen Journal, wrote a very good articles about both teams … years later … Can Google them still…

All the teams in Bladen County had some great teams … including the 6-man teams … including state championships … long before consolidation … of schools … Been some pretty good one’s since as well … Not sure why I woke up with 50s and 60s football teams on my mind…

Oh yes … Tri-captains for the Elizabethtown ’60 team included … Walter Bullard, Bobby Guyton and Leslie Johnson … They still live to tell about it … Ask them about it, be prepared to spend some time … listening … just kidding…

How about this weather? Yesterday was great … today should be as well … Partly sunny, with a high near 78 … will be windy, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Mostly cloudy tonight, with a low around 62 and the brisk wind continues. Friday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy with a high near 75 … Breezy, with a south wind 12 to 22 mph with gusts in the 32 mph range … 70% chance of rain.

Cooler Sunday, high near 63 … but more 70s on the way … No complaints from this corner.

Anyone remember counter checks? Just about every retail outlet had a pad of counter checks … They were often used as scratch pads … Banking is different today…
