Spent some time tossin’ and turnin’ last night.  Solved many problems and done a fair amount of reminiscing about yesteryear.

Not sure why, but remembered early days as a County Commissioner.  It was in early 1975, shortly after being sworn in, still trying to find the meeting room and bathroom and getting to know other board members, we were tasked with sorting thru bids for the county’s first computer for the tax office.  Had no idea what we were looking for, had no idea what a computer could do, and no idea why it was needed, but we began the task, under the direction of Doug Evans, County Finance Officer/Administrator.  Without all the ‘gory’ details, we purchased one, about the size of a full-size casket that could serve the tax office only.  As I recall, our choices were Wang, IBM, Xerox and maybe a Texas Instrument.

Knew this was going to be an interesting trip, and it was. Thankful for the opportunity, but was still in a learning mode, after 8 years on the job.

Adults that volunteer to work with youngsters, in any capacity, deserve our thanks.

Bladen County jail is nearing completion.  Can you imagine, years from now when someone is bragging about being the first person ‘locked up’ in the then new, $20 million Bladen County jail.

Ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

Being ‘over the hill’ is much better than being under it.

Procrastinate Now!
