Thoughts While ShavingHAPPY NEW YEAR.  I hope 2017 will be the best.

College football this time of the year is exciting.  After all is said and done and hundreds of games have been played, the battle for the championship is down to 2, Alabama and Clemson.  Should be a great game in just over a week.

The NFL season is coming to a close for many teams.  Playoffs begin soon with eventual winners in the Super Bowl.

College basketball teams from tobacco road had a tough time yesterday.  Losers included, UNC, Duke, NCSU, Demon Deacons and Pirates.  UNCW did post a win over the Towson’s Tigers.

And staying with sports, the high school Holiday Tournament at West Bladen was a huge success.  Area teams were joined by a team from the outer banks area and from South Carolina.  Huge crowds enjoyed.

NASCAR and baseball talk has already begun.  Dale Earnhardt is no longer an eligible bachelor.  He married his longtime ‘sweetie’ (Amy Reimann) over the weekend.

As we begin a new year, we will be looking back at 2016 for a while.  Rainfall last year was above average, if my statistics are correct, and I think they are, they are from the National Weather Service.  Best I can tell we had just over 57 inches of rain.  Normal is 48-50.  Our wettest month was September when we posted nearly 13 inches at the local airport, much more in the western part of the county, mostly associated with Hurricane Mathew.  And, over 9 inches in February at the Curtis Brown airport in Elizabethtown.

Another Terrorist Attack, this time at a Nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey.  Another reminder that ‘bad folks’ are all around.

Thanks for the Happy Anniversary wishes.  56 down, hopefully many more coming.

Thoughts to ponder as we begin a NEW YEAR:

Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.  Vincent van Gogh

You will never win if you never begin.  Robert H. Shuller

If your ship doesn’t come in, swim out to it.  Jonathan Winters.

Each day is the beginning and the ending of my life.  Lorrin L. Lee

When you feel that you have reached the end and that you cannot go one step further, when life seems to be drained of all purpose; what a wonderful opportunity to start all over again, to turn over a new page.  Eileen Caddy

And, my favorite:  Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.  Theodore Roosevelt
