Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingRead the recent newsletter from the honorable NC Senator that represents the district I live in and saw accomplishments related to the proposed budget for the great state of North Carolina.  But, failed to see why the budget was ‘rammed’ through the Chamber and failed to allow the opposition party to participate in the process as has been the case for as long as I can remember.  As Chairman of Rules and Operations of the Senate, why no discussion?  Just thinking out loud.  Newspaper accounts from across the state indicate concerns from members of both parties, but leadership of the majority party was in charge and my Senator is one of the leaders.  Sometimes power overrules good judgment and fair play.  Sometimes too much power in the hands of too few who fail to follow accepted rules of the body. Sadly, we see it too often by both major political parties.  Maybe that’s one more reason unaffiliated numbers are growing.  Don’t tell me, show me.

Local elected leaders have until June 30 to approve their budget for FY 2018-19.  Towns and counties do a good job of getting the job done, and all members are involved and the public has access, except in rare situations that are the exception by NC law.

June brings change.  A break from school, high school graduations, summer vacations, more hot days, tourists come in large numbers and our merchants love that.

Change in weather today.  Hot, very hot.  Mostly sunny, with a high near 93, heat index as high as 101 and a gentle west wind, 5 to 7 mph.

I love calling Bladen County home.

There are three ingredients in the good life, learning, earning and yearning.  Christopher Morley

The definition of success to me is not necessarily a price tag, not fame, but having a good life, and being able to say I did the right thing at the end of the day.  Jeremy Luke
