Thoughts While ShavingOur President has been on Amazon’s case about discounted prices by the US Post Office.  Volume must be important to that agency.  Seems I get hundreds of ‘advertising slicks’ in a months time from so many different companies.  Just wonder how much each pays to load up my mailbox, so I can load up my garbage bags and deliver to the Bladen County Solid Waste site.

I admire folks who work daily to repair this ‘n that, independent operators, who must provide their own benefits, including insurance, retirement (401Ks), provide their own transportation, tools, and supplies.  They have to be pretty good business folks as well.  Electricians, plumbers, repairman, of all types.  I appreciate them and what they do.

What do you most look forward to in the summer time?

We are nearing the longest day of the year.  June 21st has the most daylight of any.  Sunrise at 6:02 AM and sunset at 8:31 PM.  Just over a couple of weeks away.

The old GM auto dealer building in Elizabethtown has been totally demolished, as of yesterday. No new auto dealers in the county. Some of the most recent, Clark Brothers (Dodge, Plymouth & more), Clark Motor Co (Ford, Mercury), David Shaw (Ford and Mercury), Jessup Motors (Chevrolet & GMC)  Potter Motor Co (Buick, Olds), Bridger Motor Co in Bladenboro (Ford), Billy Hinson in Clarkton & Elizabethtown (GMC vehicles), that was just in the past 25 to 30 years.  Some had many different names and operators over the years.  Realize I missed the names of some but you get the picture?  Not one new car dealer left in the county.

The old GM site will be the new home for the Elizabethtown Fire Department and Elizabethtown Rescue Squad.  Expect construction to begin soon.

Renovation continues on the old Elizabethtown Post Office building.  Every day, a new surprise it seems, but construction continues.  It will house mostly, small offices that will be for rent.

Both projects will do wonders for that side of town.
