Thoughts While ShavingHurricane Mathew has brought out the best in many Bladen County residents. Volunteers helping those most affected by the storm.

Beware of con artists who will lie, cheat and steal. They have no conscience.

Only 59 of 10,765 Bladen County residents, served by Four County EMC, are still without power. Four County serves 32,504 members over their entire service area and as of early this AM, 99.69% have power, according to their website.

Best I can determine, Duke Energy has 8,796 customers in Bladen County and only 2 remain without power.

Both utility companies employees and contractors have had a tough week. We are very appreciative of their efforts. Can’t imagine being in one of those buckets, high above the ground, the wind blowing and dealing with hot wires.

Many roads across the eastern part of the state are in need of repair. NCDOT employees and contractors are working hard to restore, but it will take time, days, weeks, some instances, months. Progress is being made. As my late mom would say, Rome was not built in a day. I would add, our roads will not/can not be repaired in a short period of time.

Hurricane Hazel, one of the deadliest and costliest hurricanes (at that time), visited Bladen 62 years ago today. October 15, 1964.

Voter registration has been extended until Wednesday. The deadline was yesterday, but was extended because of the storm.

Early voting begins Thursday.

Election day is Tuesday, November 8th, 24 days remaining. Bring it on.
