Here are Three Things to Know for Friday, February 7:

1. The Mother County Genealogical Society will meet Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at Bladenboro Historical Society Building located at 818 South Main Street. Karen Dawsey will talk about the Bartram Family and the history of Oakland Plantation in Bladen County.

2. Jones Lake State Park is offering a hike through the bay forest Saturday at 10 a.m. to discover the unique environment of the area. Discussion during the hike will include the flora and fauna of the forest, and why Carolina Bays are important. The program will begin at the Visitor Center. Participants are advised to bring bug spray, water, and hiking shoes. The event is free and open to the public. Information: 910-588-4550.

3. Reptiles at the Library program Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Branch Library in Elizabethtown. Fresh Start Rescue Inc. members will teach about reptiles such as lizards, tortoises and snakes. Live animals will present.
