WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Chris Coons (D-DE), co-chairs of the Senate Human Rights Caucus, released the following statement:
“We are closely following the concerning reports about the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul one week ago today. Freedom of the press is a fundamental democratic value, and it sends a chilling message to journalists and those who support democracy around the world when voices of dissent are silenced. As co-chairs of the Senate Human Rights Caucus, we urge Saudi authorities to immediately investigate and verify Jamal’s location.”
