“I congratulate Donald Trump and Mike Pence, as well as all other leaders in North Carolina and throughout the nation who earned hard-fought victories last night. I also congratulate my good friend Senator Richard Burr and look forward to continuing to work with him on behalf of each and every North Carolinian in the Senate.
“Our nation has just endured the toughest and most bitter presidential election in recent memory. On many occasions, the tone and tenor on both sides were regrettable. Fortunately, the time for campaigning has finally come to an end. What we desperately need right now is strong, compassionate leadership that will unite the American people and begin to heal the deep partisan fissures that exist in our country. I am optimistic that we can and will build a stronger and more prosperous America.”
