In July 2019, Town of Bladenboro Manager Blake Proctor sent a memo out to town officials in reference to the need of a clamshell truck. This truck is a specialized piece of equipment used to pick up large size debris from the roadside left by town residents. On Thursday, January 9, 2020, Andy Coleman, Bladenboro’s Public Works Director delivered the vehicle to the town.

The pre-owned 2012 Freightliner was purchased by the town for $79,500 with a five year loan at 2.37 percent interest, according to Proctor. “This means we don’t have to pay anything out of this budget year,” Proctor added.

The work truck was purchased from a company located in Tampa Florida and Public Works Director Coleman drove the vehicle back from the Florida on Thursday.

Training on the new equipment will begin on Monday, January 13, 2020. “You have to have a CDL to drive the truck. We do have a couple men with CDL licenses, but those who don’t have a CDL are studying to get them,” Proctor said.

The equipment may be used to pick up road debris, tree limbs, furniture and other items.
