Clarkton, NC—On the evening of May 7th, the Town of Clarkton held a bittersweet tribute to honor the late Mayor James “Tim” Tart, who passed away on January 17, 2024, shortly after beginning his second term as Mayor. The ceremony took place before the Town Board Meeting and reflected on his more than 30 years of steadfast commitment to the community as a Commissioner and Mayor.

The current Mayor, Jerome Myers, along with Commissioners Linda Croom, E. Troy Mitchell, and Stephen Hester, gathered at Clarkton Town Hall to present a memorial plaque to Tim Tart’s family. Judy Tart, his wife, and their daughters, Melissa T. Hood and Melody Tart accepted the plaque in a sincere ceremony that underscored Tart’s significant contributions to the town.

Tart’s legacy includes numerous achievements and a deep devotion to Clarkton, where he worked tirelessly to enhance the community’s quality of life. His leadership was marked by a compassionate approach to governance and an unwavering dedication to public service.

Tim was more than just a Mayor; he was a friend who dedicated his life to making Clarkton a better place for everyone. Mayor Myers explained that Tart’s passing is a profound loss, and the Town wants to celebrate Tart’s life and his mark on the community.

The Town of Clarkton extends its deepest condolences to the Tart family during this time of remembrance. James “Tim” Tart’s memory and contributions will forever be a part of Clarkton’s history, inspiring future generations to continue his legacy of service.
