Elizabethtown Town Council met in regular session on Monday evening.  They held a public hearing regarding a Rezoning Request from Smithy’s Enterprises, LLC, for property at 711 Martin Street.  After no comments during the public hearing, Council approved the zoning request to change the zoning from R12 to R10-High Density Residential.  This will allow single family dwellings and will meet area requirements to bring both houses on the property into conformity.

A second public hearing was held regarding a Code of Ordinance Amendment for Chapter 92-Cemeteries.  No comments were made from the public and Council approved changes including the following: A vault is required for all burials in the Elizabethtown City Cemetery; sale of lot prices and grave marking prices will be determined annually by the Town Council; No area of the cemetery is designated for interment of cremated remains, but remains can be interred on a burial space and must use a poly-concrete or steel urn vault with a burial marker.

Since the Town officially made the “Pork and Beats Festival” an official town event, Council appointed an advisory board to coordinate the event from year-to-year.  Members appointed were Mike Shaw, Chair; Billie Hall, Vice Chair; Mark Gillespie, Dawn Maynard, Karen Barnhart, Becky Spearman, Sandra Cain, Amy Shaw, and James Freeman.

In administrative matters, Council approved a resolution for a Building Reuse Application with Elizabethtown Deli and Subs; approved Work Order #6 Airport Taxiway Project; approved low bid for demolition of the Jessup Motors building; approved Tory Hole Park Boardwalk Construction project; approved Tax Releases and the monthly financial report.

The Town Council, Planning Board and the Zoning Ordinance Advisory Committee will meet on Monday, March 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Room to review the Zoning Ordinance Rewrite.  Councilman Howell Clark stated, “this has been a 14 month process with much time and effort by the committee and we hope the citizens will participate in this public meeting regarding the changes.”

In observance of Easter, the Town offices will be closed on Friday, March 30th.
