Bladen Community College is excited to announce its participation in this year’s NC Reads program and invites individuals to join in this enriching opportunity!

NC Reads, organized by North Carolina Humanities, is a statewide book club aimed at exploring issues of racial, social, and gender equity, as well as the rich history and culture of North Carolina.

The selected books showcase stories of American perseverance and diversity, prompting critical reflection on the role each of us plays in fostering a more just and inclusive society within North Carolina.

We’ve already embarked on our reading journey, and we encourage everyone to get involved! Limited copies of the selected books are still available on campus, or you can secure yours online.

Stay tuned for upcoming local events and program updates! Our reading of the first book, “Beyond Innocence,” began on February 1st. This nonfiction narrative delves into the harrowing ordeal of a young Black man wrongly accused of a crime in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His story serves as a poignant reminder of the systemic prejudices individuals face and the challenges of rebuilding one’s life post-incarceration.

Join us in this transformative journey of learning and reflection!
