The United Way of Bladen County Day of Caring will take place on Friday, November 1, 2019. On this day, United Way of Bladen County is partnering with Bladen Baptist Association, Bladen Disaster Relief Team and the Division of Aging.

The activities planned for the day are to build wheelchair ramps, help with small home repairs, and to assist Public Schools of Bladen County collect food items to provide weekend meals to students.  The collection of food is to help break the 72 hours of hunger on the weekends some students face. The food will also aid students with food during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

“Our success depends on your support by donations and volunteers,” said Barbara Knight, of United Way of Bladen County.

Monetary contributions from individuals or businesses of $100 or more will be recognized on a banner posted at the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market in Elizabethtown the day of the event!

How may you help?

All volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Cape Fear Farmers Market, located at 106 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Elizabethtown on Friday, November 1.  Food donations will be collected, bagged and delivered to the schools on that day. Mrs. Cheryl White-Smith one of the United Way of Bladen County board members encourages businesses and schools to collect pop-top can food items to make it easy for students to open the cans when home.

Please join us in making a difference in our community by supporting the food drive by donating pop-top can foods, (spaghetti, ravioli, soups), mac and cheese, instant grits, oatmeal, pop-tarts, juice boxes, breakfast bars, can fruit, peanut butter crackers, and other food for the backpacks.

Volunteers to build ramps, or make small home repairs will meet team leaders at the farmer’s market and then go to the work sites that morning.

Individual contributors may drop food at Cape Fear Farmers Market on the morning of November 1 from 7:45 am until 9:00 am.
