NEW SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS FOR RETAILERS

The Governor’s Executive Order 131 places certain requirements on retailers with the goal of protecting patrons and workers from the COVID 19 virus. These requirements include: providing markings indicating a safe 6′ between customers at places where they would gather (checkout lines, deli counters, etc.), limiting occupancy to 20% of stated fire capacity or 5 people for every 1000 square feet of retail space, and performing frequent and routine environmental cleaning and disinfection.

The requirements went into effect at 5pm on Monday, April 13. The EO also recommends the marking of spaces 6″ apart in high traffic areas, placement of hand sanitizer at entry and exit points, the establishment of designated shopping hours for seniors and at-risk groups, and clear signage that reminds customers and employees of social distancing.
