Walmart stores is rolling out a new method for customers to pay for their purchases called Walmart Pay.
The app allows customers to scan a code at the cash register and pay for their items. The transaction will not require the direct use of a credit or debit card, according to company officials.
“It’s exciting to hear,” said Elizabethtown Walmart Manager Jeff Flemming of the app.
According to a release, the app is available through the Walmart mobile app. From the Walmart mobile app shoppers can activate Walmart Pay and choose a preferred method of purchase. Shoppers can then use their cell phone’s built-in camera to scan a code at the cash register during the checkout process.
“We’re really working hard to create a seamless shopping experience,” said Neil Asche, president and CEO of global e-commerce at Wal-Mart.
Company officials say the app is currently available in limited market areas and will become widely available after the holiday shopping season.
