Steven Pfaff, Warning Coordination Meteorologist, National Weather Service gave an updated report on Saturday afternoon. Pfaff gave a quick summary of Monday’s forecast.

The severe weather risk will increase early Monday morning in the inland areas and will persist to the coast late morning into the early afternoon, according to the report. Weather threats include wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, some large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

Additional threats include localized flooding of poor drainage and flood-prone locations along with frequent cloud to ground lightning with the stronger storms, according to Pfaff. Also, gale force winds are likely across the adjacent coastal waters Sunday night into Monday.The briefing for Monday’s severe weather potential is below for review.

There will be quite a few weather impacts over the next few days according to Victoria Oliva with the National Weather Service in Wilmington. She also mentioned severe weather is possible Sunday night into early Monday.

Oliva listed marine hazards for Sunday into Monday and coastal flooding is possible for downtown Wilmington today. Below are maps of the forecasts for Sunday and Monday.

Sunday rain showers are expected in the afternoon and evening as a warm front lifts north. Potential severe weather is expected Sunday night with the approach of a cold front.

The severe weather is also expected early on Monday with the cold front passage. However, clear skies and temperatures in the 80s are forecasted to appear after the severe weather moves out.
