Every year millions of people prepare for Thanksgiving by cooking a turkey for their friends and family. The White Lake Fire Department helps Bladen County folks prepare for the big day while raising funds for their department.

The Fire Department held their annual Thanksgiving fundraiser Wednesday. For the past five or so years the department has sold fried and baked turkeys and Boston butts to help raise money for their department according to Fire Chief Dale Brennan.

Chief Brennan said, “We had about 20 volunteer firefighters take off of their regular jobs to help with this fundraiser and will do the same thing for their annual White Lake Water Festival plate sale.”

Brennan added, “Some even take their vacation days to come and help with this.”

According to some volunteers the department took almost 200 orders before Thanksgiving.

The fire department will cook hogs and chicken during the annual water festival in May as another fundraiser.
