DUBLIN – Freshman Joseph Masaid fired in a pair of first-half goals to lead West Bladen to a 3-2 Three Rivers Conference men’s soccer victory over Red Springs Monday night.

Junior Victor Lopez also scored a first-half goal off of an assist from Masaid as the Knights built a 3-0 halftime lead then held on as the Red Devils fought back with a pair of goals in the second half.

“I am proud of the way our team fought for the lead and was able to maintain it,” said Knight Coach Phillip Turnage. “Our defensive play was really our best to date. Goalkeeper Angel Martinez had 12 stops. “He really played lights out and for that was selected for the player of the game.”

“Defensive Captain Johnny Santana also played brilliantly with some impossible stops of his own,” added Coach Turnage. “This was a complete win and another one that we can build momentum from.”

The Knights improved to 2-0 in conference play and are 2-2-1 overall. West Bladen will travel to St. Pauls Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game.
