CARY – West Bladen’s doubles team of Conner Brisson and Savannah Lee dropped a tough match to Greene Central’s Taylor Williams and Hinson Britt by scores of 7-6 (5), 7-5 Friday in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A State Tournament.
“It was a hard fought match, but we are proud to have made it this far,” said West Bladen Coach Mary Catherine White.
Brisson and Lee, who are both juniors, were the Three Rivers Conference double champions and finished fourth in last week’s MidEast 2A Regionals. The Greene Central team won the East Regional, but lost in the quarterfinals to Lake Norman Charter’s Lauren Bush and Annie Thomas 6-0, 6-1.
The semifinals and championship match are scheduled Saturday.
