EAST ARCADIA – Tar Heel’s Panthers raced to leads of 10-0 and 17-2 en route to a 39-27 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over East Arcadia.

Larry Council threw in a pair of first quarter baskets, Antonio Candelaria sank 3 free throws, and Lancine Soumanoro tossed in a basket as Tar Heel built the 10-0 first quarter lead. Ke Shawn Ballard added a free throw.

Soumanoro pumped in a pair of second-quarter baskets, Serinni Washington dropped in a basket, and Anthony Cowan hit a free throw as the visitors stretched their lead to 17-2. Emmanuel Lewis scored the only East Arcadia basket of the first half.

Lewis drained a 3-point shot, a 2-point basket and a free throw in the third quarter. Teammate Trevon Sower canned a basket, and Olierio made a free throw.

Soumanoro fired in 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the third period. Cowan and Washington added a basket each to keep the Tar Heel lead at 27-11 at the quarter break.

Lewis drilled in a 2-point shot and 2 more baskets for East Arcadia in the final period. Teammate David bombed in a 3-point shot and hit 2 free throws. Corey Robbins popped in a basket, and Olierio netted a free throw.

Council buried a 3-point shot for Tar Heel in the final quarter. Ballard contributed a basket and a free throw, and Soumanoro, Candelaria and Washington connected on a basket each.

Soumanoro topped the Tar Heel scoring with 14 points, Council finished with 7 points, and Washington totaled 6 points. Lewis led all scorers for East Arcadia with 15 points.
