YAPHANK, NY – Ty Mathis of Elizabethtown pitched Canes-Gallaher to a 6-1 victory over the Mid Atlantic Pirates Friday in a 13-and-Under quarterfinal game of the National Youth Baseball Classic at the Baseball Heaven Complex on Long Island.
Mathis pitched 6.2 innings of the 7-inning game before reaching his pitch count limit. The hard-throwing righthander struck out 6, walked 4 and allowed only one run and 3 hits. Over the first 5 innings, Mathis needed to face only 16 batters to record 15 outs.
Canes-Gallaher will play the unbeaten Grit Black team from New York at 9 a.m. in the semi-finals. If Canes-Gallaher wins they advance to Saturday’s 1 p.m. championship game that will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
