TEACHEY – East Bladen’s Eagles opened their 2018 football schedule Wednesday night in a powerhouse scrimmage that featured defending Class 2A state champion Wallace-Rose Hill and Class 2AA state runner-up East Duplin.

Wilmington Ashley, a Class 4A school, also participated in Wednesday’s scrimmage.

“It was good to hit somebody else with a different colored uniform,” said East Bladen Coach Robby Priest. “We got about 75 plays under our belts, so we have a lot to use to get to where we want to be. But we have got to get there in a hurry.”

As far as matching up with the talented Bulldogs and Panthers, Priest said, “We saw some good and some bad. The important part is we got more film to show and learn from.”

The Eagles will take part in the Battle of the Carolinas Thursday night at Lumberton High School. East Bladen will battle Class 4A foe Purnell Swett at 7 p.m. in the scrimmage.
