East Bladen High SchoolSOUTHPORT – Sophomore Jay McKoy and freshman Chase Starkloff fired in 2 goals each to lead East Bladen to a 9-0 non-conference men’s soccer victory Monday night over South Brunswick.

The Eagles led 8-0 at halftime and ended the game on the mercy rule 40 seconds into the second half. Junior Ebrahim Algozy connected with sophomore Garrett Melvin on a throw-in, and Melvin drilled in the game-ending shot from 20 yards out.

In the game’s third minute, McKoy knocked in the Eagles’ first goal from 2 yards out off of a feed from senior Greyson Heustess.

Thirteen minutes later, senior Pierce Melvin blasted a free kick 50 yards to McKoy who smacked in his second goal from ten yards out.  Two minutes later junior Milton Estrada turned a rebound of a Pierce Melvin shot into a goal from 3 yards out.

In the 22nd minute, Pierce Melvin banged in a header off of senior Bryan Monroe’s corner kick to pad the East lead to 4-0.  A minute later Heustess sent a pass to Starkloff who finished off the shot from 8 yards out for a 5-0 lead.

Moments later Heustess stole the ball and found the back of the net from 9 yards out. With 14 minutes left in the half, sophmore Jackson Bostic delivered a pass to Starkloff who raced for the goal and slammed in the shot from ten yards out for a 7-0 lead.

With 5 minutes left in the half, Estrada found junior Gabe Barber with a pass, and Barber cut back and hammered in the shot from 11 yards out.

Heustess and Pierce Melvin were credited with 2 assists each. Bostic, Estrada, Algozy, and Monroe added one assist each. Sophomore Jacob Priest recorded the shutout in goal for the Eagles.

“We were able to get a lot of kids some quality minutes,” said Eagle Coach Jay Raynor. “We had a lot of younger guys step up and play really well.”

The Eagles, now 4-0-1, will open Three Rivers Conference play on September 5th at St. Pauls.
