DublinMotorDUBLIN — Dublin Motor Speedway will host the eighth annual Oren Taylor Memorial Race on Saturday, and the Taylor family is expecting a big crowd for the event.

“Dublin Motor Speedway is a family venue that provides clean fun and entertainment for all ages and we hope you will make plans to attend this event at the meanest dirt track in the Southeast,” said Denise Taylor Bridgers, who is Oren’s oldest daughter.

The Oren Taylor Memorial featured race will be the Limited Late Model, with a winner’s purse of $3,000 and increases to the rest of the pay bracket.

Oren Taylor was the founder of Dublin Motor Speedway and, along with his wife Linda, he loved giving folks a place for entertainment, fellowship and great dirt-track racing. In the 1980s, they ran go-karts on Friday nights, stock cars on Saturday nights and moto-x racing on Sundays.

“Racing was his hobby that he turned into a family business,” Bridgers said.

Oren’s nephew, Richard Bailey, and his family currently manage the Bladen County racetrack and have already seen some exciting racing this year.

In addition to Saturday night’s racing, the Taylor family — which owns Lu Mil Vineyard, Taylor Manufacturing and D’Vine Foods — will honor Oren by hosting the annual Taylor Employee Appreciation Day for their employees and family members with a cookout, entertainment, prizes and ending with a great night of racing.

Setting the date

When Bridgers and Bailey were trying to schedule the race this year, there were only a few dates that would work due to other events. June 20 was one of those dates and Denise was a little concerned because it was Father’s Day weekend.

Her daughter, Aleigh Taylor Bridgers, looked at her and said, “What better weekend to honor Pops (the name his grandchildren called him) than Father’s Day?”

So, immediately, the date for this year’s event was set.

Dublin Motor Speedway runs on Saturday nights with several classes: Late Model, Open Wheel Modified, Super Street, Pure Stock and UCAR.

Admission prices are: Pits-$25, Grandstand-$15, Seniors and Military-$12, Students (13 to 18)-$8 and Children 12 and under-free.

Gates open at 5 p.m.
