ELIZABETHTOWN – A seven-run second inning propelled West Robeson American to an 11-4 victory over Elizabethtown Saturday in the opening round of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Majors Tournament.
Elizabethtown sliced the lead to 7-4 in the third inning. Jackson Smith walked, and Torrean Cogdell smacked a single to rightfield. Garrett Dunham walked to load the bases, and Darius Williamson blasted a grand-slam home run over the centerfield fence.
West Robeson tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning.
Williamson’s grand-slam homer led the Elizabethtown hitters. Cogdell, Daveon Lewis and Kalec Autry connected for one hit each. Cogdell, Dunham, Williamson and Smith scored one run each.
Elizabethtown will play West Robeson National Sunday at 4 p.m. in an elimination game.
