ELIZABETHTOWN – A six-run sixth-inning explosion propelled Elizabethtown to an 8-3 victory over West Robeson National Sunday in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Majors Tournament.

Elizabethtown grabbed an early lead when pitcher Daveon Lewis drew a second-inning walk and eventually scored the game’s first run. West Robeson tied the score 1-1 in the bottom of the second.

Gavin Elks walked in the Elizabethtown fifth inning and raced home when Darius Williamson hammered a triple.

Jordan Hester drilled a double to left-centerfield to begin the Elizabethtown sixth inning. Natorean Corbett knocked in Hester with a double. Lewis belted a single to right-centerfield that scored Corbett.

Elks and Torrean Cogdell cracked singles, and Williamson and Garrett Dunham drew walks that scored Elks. Kalec Autry slammed a double that scored Cogdell, Williamson and Dunham for an 8-1 Elizabethtown lead.

West Robeson National trimmed the final margin to 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth.

Cogdell led Elizabethtown with two hits and a run scored. Williamson tripled and scored a run. Corbett, Dunham, Autry and Hester all slugged doubles, and Lewis and Elks connected for one hit each. Elks scored twice, and Williamson, Dunham, Hester, Corbett, and Lewis scored one run each.

Elizabethtown advances to play Red Springs in an elimination game at 6 p.m. Monday.
