Dublin – Bladen Community College (BCC) faculty and staff convened together to kick off the 2019-2020 academic year during an all campus assembly held on August 1st. The gathering included important updates and information to support student enrollment, completion, and safety as well as professional development.

Vincent Morris, BCC welding student, gave a very motivating account of how he chose to attend Bladen Community College and what led to his recent accomplishment as a first place winner in sculpture at the state SkillsUSA competition and going on to secure a ninth place honor in the nation competition held this summer.

Dr. Amanda Lee, BCC President, provided attendees with a “state of the college” address highlighting Bladen Community College’s accomplishments and goals within the state system of community colleges and a national context.

Bladen Community College employees were also recognized during the assembly. Annually, faculty and staff honor their peers by submitting nominations for these outstanding contributions.

The following representatives for 2019 were chosen as follows: Sondra Guyton, Vice President for Continuing Education was named the Staff Member of the Year. The Excellence in Teaching Award for a full-time faculty member was presented to nursing instructor Michelle Norris.

Spanish instructor Kimberly Small received recognition with the Excellence in Teaching Award for an Adjunct Faculty member. The inaugural President’s Award, representing exemplary performance and embodiment of the college’s mission, was presented to Francis Rideout, Jr., Director of Facilities.

Years of service awards for 2018-19 were also acknowledged and presented as follows: Five years of service: Rupert Lucas, Mary Anne Murphy; ten years of service: Wendy Sholar, Diane Vitale; Fifteen years of service; Doris Horne; twenty years of service: Willerwease McKoy and Victor Singletary.
