RED SPRINGS – Red Springs withstood a 3-touchdown East Bladen rally in the fourth quarter and held on for a 40-28 Three Rivers Conference football victory Friday night in a game that had a long lightning delay early in the second period.

Lee McLean opened the Red Devil scoring with a 41-yard touchdown run, and Jhalil Brunson ran 34 yards for a TD as the Red Devils built a 13-0 lead before the delay.

When play resumed, Tae Graham darted 22 yards for a Red Devil touchdown and a 20-0 lead 9:24 before halftime.

Junior Rasean McKoy put the Eagles on the scoreboard with a 6-yard touchdown run midway the quarter. Senior Gabe Barber kicked the extra point to pull East Bladen within 20-7.

McLean dove into the end zone from a yard out at the 1:38 mark to up the Red Devil lead to 26-7 at halftime. McLean grew the lead to 33-7 at the 7:25 mark of the third quarter with another one-yard TD run.

Eagle senior Kasey Price broke free on a 33-yard touchdown run with 8:39 left to play in the game that trimmed the margin to 33-13.

McLean bolted 19 yards for his fourth touchdown of the game that padded the Red Devil lead to 40-13 at the 7:12 mark.

McKoy answered moments later racing 54 yards for an Eagle touchdown. Senior quarterback Tayshaun Berkeley tossed a pass to junior Zylique Lewis for the 2-point conversion that whittled the lead to 40-21.

Price banged into the end zone on a 7-yard touchdown run with 2:48 left to play that narrowed the final margin to 40-28 after Barber tacked on the extra point.

McLean carried 26 times for 183 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead the Red Devils. Graham finished with 109 yards rushing and a TD as Red Springs piled up 391 rushing yards and 417 total yards.

McKoy rushed 18 times for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Eagle attack. Price carried 11 times for 61 yards and 2 TD’s. East Bladen totaled 260 rushing yards.

East Bladen will host West Columbus on Friday.
