BLADENBORO – Azillyah McDonald and Anniya Phillips threw in fourth quarter baskets Tuesday as West Bladen’s Lady Knights edged East Columbus 18-17 in Three Rivers Conference jayvee girls basketball action.
Olivia McCarty sank a pair of free throws in the final period for the winners, and Makayla Wright made one foul shot.
Wright threw in a basket and a free throw to keep the Lady Knights even 7-7 after one quarter. Another Wright basket kept the score tied 10-10 at halftime. Xia Phair hit a free throw to push the Lady Knights in front 11-10 in the third period.
Wright led the West Bladen scoring with 6 points. Phillips finished with 5 points, and McCarty totaled 4 points. Harmony Sommerville topped all scorers with 11 points for the Lady Gators.
It was the first win of the season for Coach Wade Pait’s Lady Knights, who are now 1-2 in league play and 1-3 overall. West Bladen will host Clinton on Friday night in a non-conference game.
