BLADENBORO – Junior Weston Glassgow paced a long-range Dillon Christian attack with 28 points Friday as the Warriors defeated host West Bladen 76-51 in the second round of the Adidas Christmas Tournament.
Glassgow drained four 3-point shots during a 22-11 second-period surge that opened up a 35-18 halftime lead. The Warriors connected on eleven 3-point shots in the game – 6 of them by Glassgow.
Senior Nolan Bryant put back a rebound, and senior Tyre Boykin popped in a baseline jumper for an early 4-2 Knight lead. Junior Adam Norman rallied the Warriors with a pair of lay-ups and a 3-point basket.
Glassgow’s steal and lay-up upped the count to 11-4, before West Bladen’s Shy’Ron Adams banked in a 3-pointer to narrow the gap to 11-7. Phillip Campbell banked in a runner for a 13-7 Warrior lead at the quarter break.
Adams raced for a lay-up, and junior Josh Lewis banked in a runner to pull the Knights within 15-11. A pair of Glassgow 3-balls padded the lead to 21-11, but Boykin drove for a lay-up, and senior Nijeah McKoy turned an Adams’ assist into a lay-up that trimmed the margin to 21-15.
Two 3-pointers by Glassgow and one by Norman keyed a 14-3 spurt that propelled the Warriors to a 35-18 halftime lead.
Junior Josh Lewis threw in a baseline runner, a 3-pointer and a trio of lay-ups to keep the Knights within 46-31. Boykin drove for a lay-up, freshman Gary Parker sank 2 free throws, and Adams assisted on a Lewis lay-up, drove for a lay-up and buried a 3-point shot.
Six-nine senior Xayvon Davis’ follow shot pulled West to within 53-40 at the quarter break. Glassgow, Campbell, sophomore Ethan Brewington, and senior Josh Durant tossed in 2 baskets each in the period to keep the Warriors on top.
A pair of Boykin lay-ups whittled the Dillon lead to 55-44 with 6:57 on the clock, but 3-pointers from junior Austin Heasley, senior Ian Bethea and Glassgow ignited a 15-1 run that stretched the margin to 70-45.
“The effort was okay today, but we need some practice time,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “We had trouble scoring the ball. We have got to shoot the ball better.”
Boykin topped the Knight scoring with 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Lewis followed with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Adams finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Bryant corralled 6 rebounds, and Davis had 5 rebounds.
Norman scored 16 points for the Warriors, and Campbell totaled 9 points.
West Bladen, now 4-5, will play North Brunswick Saturday at 2 p.m. Dillon Christian will battle Pamlico in the fifth-place game at 4 p.m.
