WHITEVILLE – Unbeaten Whiteville closed the third set with an 11-1 run then pulled away in the final set to claim a 3-1 Three Rivers Conference victory over West Bladen Thursday night by set scores of 25-12, 10-25, 25-15 and 25-10.

After dropping the first set, the Lady Knights opened the second stanza with a 9-2 spurt then used some precision serving and power hitting to stretch that lead to 12-5, 16-8 and 21-9 before evening the match 1-1 with the second set victory.
The Lady Knights fell behind 8-2 in the third set but rallied to within 10-9 then edged ahead 12-11. The teams were knotted at 14-14 before Whiteville’s pivotal run that produced a 2-1 lead in sets.
Senior Ashlyn Cox dished out 10 assists and had 4 digs, a block and an ace for the Lady Knights. Senior Amelia Brisson drilled in 5 kills, an ace and a block. Senior Shelby Pharr hammered in 5 kills, an ace and had 2 digs.
Sophomore Whitney McLean knocked in 2 kills, a block and had a dig for West. Sophomore Makayla Wright smacked in a kill, and sophomore Emily Young collected 7 digs and an ace.
West Bladen, now 2-2 in league play and 4-3 overall, will travel to West Columbus Thursday.
Whiteville won the jayvee match 2-0 by set scores of 25-12 and 25-11.
