HALLSBORO – A 7-run 3rd-inning propelled Bladen County to a 15-11 victory over Whiteville American in the opening round of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 Minors (AAA) Tournament Saturday.

Bladen County advances to a 4 p.m. winners bracket game Sunday against South Columbus – a 24-1 winner over Riegelwood.

Tyler Thurman reached base on an error in the 1st inning and raced home when Corben Chadwick belted a single for the 1st Bladen run.

Brooks Carroll reached base on an error in the Bladen 2nd inning, and Keithan Russ singled. Both runners advanced on a fielder’s choice and Payten Johnson knocked them in with a single. After Jeremiah Bryan walked, Rylan Bordeaux smacked a single that scored Johnson.

Thurman, Drake Gause, Chadwick and Dalton Ammons began the 3rd inning with back-to-back-to-back-to-back singles with Ammons driving in a run. Carroll and Russ walked, and Will Allen was hit by a pitch to force home a run.

Thurman, Gause, Chadwick, Ammons and Carroll scored runs, before Bryan ripped a single that drove in Russ and Allen with the 6th and 7th runs of the inning.

Chadwick and Gauge King were hit by pitches in the Bladen 5th inning, and Ammons walked. Carroll slammed a single that scored Chadwick and Ammons. Russ reached base on an error that brought home King. Allen and Johnson drew walks that forced home Carroll. Bryan was hit by a pitch that forced home Russ.

Ammons started on the mound for Bladen County and was relieved by Gause, Carroll and King.

Chadwick batted 2-for-2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored to lead the Bladen hitters. Thurman, Gause, Ammons, Carroll, Russ, Johnson, Bryan and Bordeaux connected for 1 hit each for the winners. Russ and Carroll scored 3 runs each. Thurman and Ammons scored twice each, and Gause, King, Johnson and Allen scored 1 run each.

Johnson and Bryan drove in 3 runs each. Carroll finished with 2 RBIs, and Ammons, Allen and Bordeaux had 1 RBI each.
