ELIZABETHTOWN – Freshman Leah McGill fired in a ‘Hat Trick’ of 3 goals, and freshman Lynn Perez tallied 2 goals and an assist as East Bladen rolled to an 8-0 jayvee girls soccer victory over Pender Thursday.

Freshman Iveonna “NeNe” Ward opened the scoring for the Lady Eagles by banging a shot into the back of the net in the 6th minute. Two minutes later freshman Jackie Medina-Leal knocked in a goal to pad the lead to 2-0.

McGill converted a feed from Perez into the 3rd East Bladen goal with 15 minutes left in the 1st half. Perez cracked the scoring column 6 minutes before halftime as the lead grew to 4-0.

Sophomore Zoe Smith closed out the 1st half scoring with a goal 3 minutes before intermission. The Lady Eagles outshot Pender 10-0 in the 1st half and 19-0 for the game.

Seventeen minutes into the 2nd half Perez stretched the lead to 6-0 with her 2nd goal of the game. McGill delivered a pair of goals in the final 16 minutes to complete her ‘Hat Trick.’ Her final goal came with 11:10 remaining.

Sophomore McKenzie Storms, junior Ashlyn Williams, Smith and Ward combined to record the shutout in goal for East Bladen.

‘Joelene Merritt had a great performance in midfield for us today,” said Lady Eagle Coach Jay Raynor. “It was good to see all the girls play significant minutes. Julia Stanley and Katie Baza also played well for us.”

The East Bladen jayvees improved to 4-0 with the victory.
