ST PAULS – West Bladen’s Boys captured the top spot and the Lady Knights tied with St. Pauls for 1st in Thursday’s Southeastern Athletic Conference 4-team Track & Field meet. East Bladen edged St. Pauls for 2nd place in the boys meet.

The Knights boys piled up 46 points in the distance and hurdles compared to 18 for St. Pauls and 15 for East Bladen. The Eagles were stronger in the relays and the jumping events. The final tally was: West Bladen 99 points; East Bladen 75.5; St. Pauls 72.5; Fairmont 6.

The West Bladen and St. Pauls girls scored 61 points each. The Lady Knights held a 22-11 edge in the hurdles and relays, while St. Pauls was stronger in the distance races. Fairmont finished 3rd with 35 points, followed by East Bladen with 33 points.

Senior Josiah Brown led the Knight boys winning the 110 meter hurdles in 16.9 seconds and the 300 meter hurdles in 44.1 seconds. Brown placed 2nd in the 400 meters (55.0) and 4th in the long jump 18 feet, 11 inches.

Knight senior Bradley Taylor won the 3200 meter run in 13 minutes, 8 seconds and was 4th in the 1600 (6:01). Senior teammate Keegan Haraldson placed 1st in the 1600 in 5 minutes, 14 seconds.

West junior Deonte Lacey won the shot put with a heave of 37 feet, 6 inches, and senior teammate Javonta Matthews took top honors in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 6 inches.

Eagle senior Willie Battle leaped 20 feet, 10 inches to win the long jump and was runner-up in the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet even. Sophomore teammate Blaine Pope won the 400 meters with a time of 53.2 seconds.

East sophomore Jaden Pridgen hurled the discus 126 feet, 8 inches to capture 1st place, and Pridgen was 3rd in the shot put with a heave of 35 feet, 2 inches. The Eagles won the 4×800 relay (9:35), and 4×400 relay (3:56).

West Bladen junior Shanyla Hunter won the girls’ 100 meters in 13.3 seconds and was runner-up in the long jump (15 feet, 3 inches). Sophomore teammate Kiera Lewis leaped 15 feet, 11 inches to win the long jump and was 3rd in the 100 meters (13.7 seconds).

Lady Knight sophomore Trinity VanEyken won the 100 meter hurdles in 17.8 seconds and placed 4th in the 100 meter dash (13.8 seconds). Senior teammate Jessalyn Vendrick threw the discus 87 feet, 7 inches to win that event. The Lady Knights 4×100 relay team won in 53.9 seconds.

East Bladen freshman Laila Smith won the 200 meter dash in 28 seconds and leaped 4 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump. She placed 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles (19.7 seconds). The Lady Eagles 4×400 relay team won in 5 minutes, 11 seconds.

Boys Shot Put: 2nd Xavier Lopez (WB) 35-08; 5th senior Kenneth Armstrong (EB) 33-04.

Boys Triple Jump: 4th Tyreon Graham (EB) 34-11.

Boys Long Jump: 2nd Malcolm Bolden (EB) 20-00; 5th junior Jordan Underwood (WB) 18-03.

Other West Bladen girls competing were junior Alicia Lawson and sophomore Trinity Meares.

The SAC-7 championship meet is scheduled for April 28th.
