With 22 cars entered in a race on a 4/10ths mile race track, being up front from the start is often the key to victory. Chris Ferguson proved it Saturday night in front of an overflow crowd at Dublin Motor Speedway.
The Mount Holly-based driver was the fastest qualifier, then led all 50 laps in winning the $5,000 top prize in the third annual Rattlesnake Rumble. Ferguson finished about three seconds ahead of runner-up Rambo Franklin. Dustin Mitchell was third, followed by Ultimate series points leader, Casey Roberts and Ivedent Lloyd. Kenny Collins, who finished sixth, was the only other driver to complete 50 laps.
In other races, Russell Erwin won in Late Model, Carlos Jaramillo in Open Wheel Modified, Cameron Norris IV in the Pure Stock, Jerry Johnson in Super Street, Damon Bryant in 4 Cylinder, and James Gardner in U-Car.
There were 92 cars entered in the seven races. There won’t be any races this coming weekend at Dublin because of the Labor Day weekend. Racing is scheduled again on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The Ultimate Super Late Model series is scheduled to return to Dublin for a sanctioned race on Oct. 10.
