The Clarkton Lions Club made a $500 donation to Elf Angels Fund on Tuesday night during its semimonthly meeting at the Clarkton Fire Department.
Elf Angels Fund founder Debbie Heustess was presented the check by club president Rusty Marsh.
“The Lions Club has been very loyal supporters of the Elf Angels Fund and we appreciate it very much,” Heustess said.
The Elf Angels program began more than 20 years ago with a challenge to some folks to help families in need during the holidays, Heustess told the club. As it grew, it became a needy children’s fund and was set up as a non-profit organization.
Today, the program helps children and seniors during Christmas and also helps people in need during the year. This year, Heustess said, Elf Angels Fund is helping 33 seniors in rest homes and group homes who have no family members to look after them. The program also has helped three families who have lost homes to fire.
The program works with Bladen County Social Services and Families First to get help to people in need, Heustess said.
