WILMINGTON- Senior guards Malcolm Bolden and Jacob Nixon combined for 41 points Thursday night to lead East Bladen to a 72-48 victory over South Brunswick in the Hoggard Holiday Classic.

Bolden drained a trio of 3-point shots and led the winners with 22 points, 7 assists and 3 steals. Nixon bombed in four 3-balls and finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. For the 2nd consecutive game the Eagles connected on ten 3-point shots.

Senior Zamar Lewis posted a double-double for East Bladen with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Junior Lee Barnes buried a pair of 3-balls and totaled 6 points. Senior Malaki Monroe tallied 5 points and 2 assists and knocked down a 3-ball. Junior Peyton Tatum grabbed 6 rebounds and had 2 blocks. Senior Cameron White and sophomore Dominick Collins dished out 2 assists each.

Nixon and Monroe hurled in 3-balls in the 1st period, and Bolden, senior Yontee Dobson and Lewis dropped in baskets. Nixon tacked on a free throw to keep East even 13-13 at the quarter break.

Bolden lit up the scoreboard with 4 baskets and a free throw to spark a 27-7 Eagle blitz in the 2nd quarter. Barnes swished his 2 3-balls, Nixon tossed in 2 baskets and 2 foul shots, and Lewis, Tatum and Monroe pumped in baskets for a 40-20 East halftime lead.

The long-range barrage continued as Bolden nailed a pair of 3-balls and a 2-point basket in the 3rd quarter. Nixon poured in a pair of 3-balls, and Lewis muscled in a pair of baskets. Collins and Tatum hit free throws, and sophomore Rodney Lacewell powered in a basket as the lead grew to 62-33 at the break.

Bolden and Nixon drilled in 3-point shots in the final period, and Lewis and junior Chris Harding added baskets.

Sophomore Caleb Bernard scored 10 of his team-high 20 points for the Cougars in the 4th quarter. Senior teammate Lamarean Mason finished with 11 points.

Coach Aking Elting’s Eagles raised their record to 9-1 and will host Clinton in Southeastern Athletic Conference action Tuesday.
