BURGAW – East Bladen seniors Jake Futrell, Parker Greene and J’marius Smith have all been named to the 2024 All-Waccamaw Conference baseball team. The Eagles were the top 1A playoff seed from the Waccamaw and reached the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Futrell was the ace of the Eagle pitching staff posting a 7-3 record with 2 saves and a 2.10 earned run average. The senior righthander struck out 9 and pitched a 3-hitter over 6 innings in a 7-1 win over West Bladen. He struck out 11 and allowed only 2 hits in an 11-1 win over Pender.
In the Terry Sanford Easter Tournament, Futrell fired a 3-hit shutout and struck out 12 in a 2-0 win over Western Harnett. He struck out 11 in a complete game 6-1 win over Heide Trask. Futrell struck out 7 in a 5-inning playoff shutout of Tarboro and pitched a 2-hitter in a win over West Columbus.
At the plate Futrell batted .273 with 18 hits, 17 runs batted in, 2 doubles and a .400 on-base percentage. He knocked in 3 runs in a win over West Columbus and batted 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs at Clinton.

Greene was a workhorse behind the plate for the Eagles. He batted .254 with 15 hits, 8 runs batted in, a double and a triple, drew 15 walks and finished with a .413 on-base percentage.
In the 11-1 win at Pender, Greene drove in 2 runs. He batted 3-for-4 at West Brunswick and 2-for-2 against Whiteville. Greene also turned in a 2-for-4 game against Heide Trask.

The versatile Smith batted .310 with 18 hits, 14 runs scored, 14 runs batted in, a triple and had a .461 on base percentage. The speedy infielder stole a team-high 11 bases and drew 11 walks.
Smith batted 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs in a win over East Columbus. At Clinton he batted 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Smith finished 2-for-3 and scored twice in a 6-2 win over Pender. He also drove in 2 runs against West Columbus.
