Hope Mills knocked off previously unbeaten Winter Park 8-7 and Topsail eliminated Wilmington Supper Optimist 4-1 on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Diamond Youth Baseball Division 1 AAA (Minors) state tournament at Clarkton DYB Complex.

The results left three teams with one loss and will require an extra game Friday to determine which team represents North Carolina in the DYB World Series in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Winter Park, which had a bye earlier in the tournament, will, again, play Hope Mills on Thursday at 5 p.m. The winner of the game will play Topsail on Friday at 6 p.m. for the state championship.

Topsail won a coin flip with Hope Mills on Wednesday to receive a bye into the title game. Neither of the two teams previously had received a bye during the tournament.
